January is Cervical Cancer awareness month

January is Cervical Cancer awareness month. Cervical cancer is the 4th most common cancer in women. There were an estimated 266,000 deaths from cervical cancer worldwide in 2012. In the UAE, the rate of cervical cancer infection is 7.4 per 100,000 women.

Cervical cancer is a cancer of the cells of the cervix (neck of the womb). Smear tests (Pap smears) detect changes in the cells of the cervix.

Phishing Scam

Due to the increasing risk of identity theft, Irish Medical Clinic LLC is providing this instruction regarding phishing scams, one of which is currently active. Phishing is a fraudulent activity in which one attempts to obtain sensitive information by masquerading as a trustworthy institution. These attempts are typically carried out by an email containing a link to what appears to be an authentic website (current example mayoclinicae.com which is an exact replica of our current website)  or via an email containing a job offer. These counterfeit sites prompt you to enter or supply your personal information , which the thieves can then use to access your accounts. Note that the Irish Medical Clinic  will NEVER send an email requesting sensitive information such as account password(s), personal information, etc. If you receive a suspicious email request which identifies the Irish Medical Clinic , DO NOT RESPOND and notify the clinic  by calling +971-4-3087900

Movember – Prostate Cancer awareness

Here is our second article raising awareness of men’s health issues in support of Movember. This article focuses on Prostate Cancer.

Most cases of prostate cancer develop in older men. In many cases the cancer is slow-growing, does not reduce life expectancy, and may not need treatment. In some cases it is more aggressive, spreads to other parts of the body, and may benefit from treatment.
